Look to your Roofs During Wet and Windy February

Mon, 30/01/2017

The cold start to 2017, which has thrown heavier snow and frost at our roofs than this time last year, looks set to become wetter and windier as we move into February - so keep a close eye on your roof. Rainy weather is the perfect time to look for water ingress, especially on blustery days when the wind can force water through cracks in plasterwork, fascias or under loose tiles.

Because roofs are so exposed, a small problem can become a big problem quite quickly - so don't ignore the signs. Damp patches, mould, dark stains etc can all indicate that water is entering the house from the outside (though the problem can also be internal) and all of them warrant further investigation.

If you can explore the problem easily and safely, don't delay. In most cases however, it's a good idea to get a professional on board as roofs can be notoriously tricky to fix properly, especially during winter when bad weather can hold up work (though an advantage of polymer roofing is that work is so quick that it can even be done between weather fronts).
