A 180m2 roof area of National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth is undergoing installation as part of a wider decarbonsation plan for the public sector.

The roof had to be refurbished with a long-lasting jointless and seamless roofing system as the entire roof will be underneath steel RSJs supporting a heat pump. The roof was mastic asphalt covered in chippings & moss. It needed to be cleared and de-chipped, before having all defects filled out with specialist roofing levelling mortar.

The roof was prepared and primed with Poly Roof primer, before full installation.

This single ply membrane roof at the University of Aberystwyth had been leaking for many years. After preparation works, including pressure washing to thoroughly clean the area, three splits were found, necessitating a roof replacement. Polymer roofing is a better-lasting material that doesn't split after time (the degradation process is slower and results in gradual 'chalking' rather than splits or lifts - meaning no water ingress).

Rhondda Heritage Centre:

The Glengower is a traditional sea-front pub and restaurant in the popular West Wales town of Aberystwyth. Its roof was suffering standing water (a major cause of water ingress, mould growth and eventual roof instability).

We removed the standing water by increasing the sump sizes, lowering the outlets and removing the duct work while new waterproofing was applied. After that, the duct work was quickly refitted. The process and our approach eliminated disruption to the hotel, a major consideration in particular for public-facing businesses of this nature.

These portacabin-style dance studios at Aberystwyth University (SY23) were in need of refurbishment involving coating the metal cladding to waterproof it and prolong its life.

We used the Polycoat RoofTec Elite system over the entire exterior - demonstrating the incredible versatility of the polymer system and the range of uses in which it excels.

WHERE NOW?

This residential car park in Belsize Park, Hampstead Heath, Camden (NW3) suffered a serious flood from the upper main road due to on-street rainwater drains being blocked solid from lack of maintenance. Although not historically a flood prone area, heavy rain and flooding wrought by climate change resulted in two houses and three apartments being flooded to a depth of one metre. This led residents to take preventive measures to decrease their reliance on external drain maintenance.

This new electricity substation in Hereford, built to improve power supply to the city's homes, was being built from scratch and needed a good, high-spec, fully weatherproof and long-lasting roof from the outset.

We used a guaranteed 20 year protection system, installation as shown in the pictures above.

The polymer system we used - Protec - is also ideal for reinstating existing power substations with zero fall, since Protec is zero fall certified to exceed the designed lifespan.

WHAT NEXT?

This porta cabin style warehouse office block on a small industrial estate at Berkeley Heath between Bristol and Gloucester (GL13 9EU) needed its roof refurbished.

As usual, we began by meticulously going over the existing roof, clearing debris, pressure-cleaning, making repairs, and so on. Only then do we apply base coat, fully sealing the area. We then applied a high-spec, jointless, seamless top coat that makes water ingress impossible and which is fully fireproof, weatherproof, UV proof, waterproof and more.

The NHS Foundation Hospital at Chorley in Preston, Lancashire, was in need of a high performance, durable cold roof for one of its many smaller roofing areas.
