At last Spring seems to have sprung and with it some sunshine and the lure of the balcony! Balconies and terraced roof areas, such as above extensions, are excellent places after the long winter - perfect both for eating outdoors and for growing a few welcome additions to the plate.

In the case of new balcony areas, this means getting the area right the first time, so problems aren't stored up for the future.

In the case of older balconies, this involves being able to trust the strength, structure and surface of the areas. Winter can often provide the first clues that a balcony area needs some attention - from patches of moss and algae growth (which often indicate a pooling damp issue) through to cracking, leaking and dripping, and loose railings (often not just a problem with the railing but with the integrity of the roof).
