Fixing timber frame problems is something we're called upon to do more often than we'd like - and when we say 'than we'd like', that's not because it's something the polymer system struggles with (it doesn't!) but because roofs are expensive, and we don't like seeing people having to pay out twice when once should have sufficed.
Mostly, this seems to come down to two issues.
Firstly, to us it appears that many timber frame companies haven't necessarily kept moving with the times. We obviously don't hear about it when companies have done a good job - but many of the roofs we do find ourselves fixing involve timber frames installed by companies doing things that might have been considered okay 20 years ago, but aren't really now.
Secondly, we find that in order to save money, many people take over a lot of items and jobs once the main timber frame is built - and these clients are now coming to us because of constant leaks.
Most commonly, this includes flat roofing, green roofing, solar panel preparation, roof terraces, patio door trays, parapets (and parapet preparation) and advice on glass balustrade systems.
To be clear - fixing these issues can sometimes cost more than the original installation.
