Before: Langport Veterinary Centre, Somerset. The stripped wooden porch roof shows where the vet's lead work was stolen

This veterinary centre in Langport, Somerset shows clearly the effect of stolen lead roofing (as well as how easily people can find themselves the victims of lead roof theft). As you can see, the lead covering the porch roof was within arm's reach and was stolen in late 2010. The striping you can see on the porch canopy is all that was left - a few rows of wooden boards.

The Langport practice, which serves many rural towns and villages in the Somerton area, was concerned about using lead again (for security reasons) but wanted to retain the traditional look of the building. They were worried that an alternative might not look right... which is where the "liquid lead" polymer system came in!

The roof is now benefitting from a 15 year system (which is guaranteed to last a minimum of 15 years but will probably last more than 20). Unlike the lead roof that went before it, the roof is now free of the theft risk, and will not have to be insured any more, saving the vets' practice both worry and expense. They have also been extremely pleased with the finished 'lead look'!
