Polymer roofing is a unique, high performance system that also benefits marine life by recycling polymer plastic particles that otherwise pose significant risks to wildlife and biodiversity.
At present, there are very few industries reusing these particles, meaning that plastics of all kinds end up breaking down in nature, where they do a great deal of damage. Plastic never rots down completely although it does, over a long period, break down into small particles (polymers), which are then inadvertently eaten by small animals or wash into rivers and seas, where they are ingested by fish, seabirds and other marine life, causing massive damage and even death.
Polymer roofing offers an alternative, reusing these polymers to create affordable, highly insulated and long-lasting roofs that perform extremely well against the elements. Because they are cold-applied, there is none of the toxic chemical release that takes place with heat-applied roofing; and they also provide an excellent, fully watertight base for turf, sedum and other living roofs, including rooftop gardens.
All this and it's also quick and about as non-disruptive to residents and wildlife as it's possible to get. Most roofs can be installed in just one day, with so little disruption that those living beneath it usually wouldn't even need to vacate their space.
