Top Tips to Create an All Season Balcony and Roofgarden

Thu, 27/08/2015

Who said Balconies and Roofgarden were just for Summer? With the right year round plants and a good, strong, fully waterproof balcony surface, there's no reason not to go on enjoying your roofgarden area throughout the seasons.

Here are our Top Tips for creating an all season balcony or roof garden:

1. Make sure it watertight!

Ok so this seems pretty obvious but a leaking outdoor surface, especially where it adjoins the main house, is both unpleasant and potentially dangerous. If you can fix it before the problems get big, that's great. Otherwise wait, it's up to you. Either way, polymer roofing will be the best, the quickest, the most thorough system you can use to waterproof your roof. It's jointless, seamless, fills every gap with ease... and it lasts.

2. Make sure it's strong enough to support plants, tools, seating, etc...

Again, this might seem obvious but it is critical! You want a surface that won't scratch, chip, bow or buckle under the weight of outdoor living (weight, what weight?)

3. Add a bit of colour!

This can make a surprising amount of difference! From fruits and flowers that bloom through the colder months, to vivid or variegated leaves, painted bird boxes, terracotta chimineas, colourful seating, you name it - colour boosts our mood when things look dreary! Which is why we offer such a spectacular range of pigmented quartz for you to choose the right colour for you - creating a bespoke balcony surface based on the colours you find most uplifting, warming or relaxing.
