The terrace balcony area, showing the very low profile of the patio door rise

This amazing new build timber frame house in Milford Haven, in Pembrokeshire (South West Wales SA73) had some very specific requirements.

First, very high insulation was needed (read more about government-set heat retention U-values here) as well a strong, highly durable and fully waterproof substrate to allow creation of a warm roof suitable for use as a green roof.

Second, the house needed a terrace balcony area suitable for…

The polymer system gives a jointless, seamless, waterproof, fireproof and weatherproof system - quickly and without hassle

Abergele Hospital's dedicated, standalone Orthopaedic unit provides care for patients with a whole variety of musculoskeletal needs - meaning good access is critical.

Because the polymer roofing system is cold-applied, suitable for most substrates and faster to install than most other systems, disruption and mess are minimal. With most of our roofs, life can carry on as normal below - giving a particular advantage for organisations…

A truly spectacular spot for a roof terrace

Set at the end of the Borth Golf Links, the roof comprises a 120m2 warm room terrace finished in Forest Green decorative quartz. Frameless glass fitted to the internal sides of the parapet walls and a couple of…

Insulation boards on the flat roof were saturated

Soaking insulation boards were a major problem not quoted for (not known about) in the overlay specification from this NHS Hwyel Dda Health Trust hospital. Replacing this full-tapered insulation system would have cost almost 15k, and the hospital had no other budget left to allocate - which could have scuppered the whole project.

A solution to help our NHS keep extremely important rooms in use was needed... and we found one.

These terracotta chimneys were in a conservation area in West Wales

These problematic chimneys, in a conservation area at the old gas works in Aberystwyth, West Wales, needed waterproofing.

The chimney pots themselves were disused, having been capped with matching terracotta ventilation caps, which were removable to allow change of use of the chimney flue.

To begin with, the pointing around the chimney stacks was ground out with flat blade diamond discs to 30mm, then repointed with premixed lime…
